National Information Technology Development Agency makes case for local content in ICT

Abuja (WorldStage Newsonline)-- Setting goals and best practices in the areas of Information Technology (IT) development in Nigeria, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) said it will consider the impact of local content development in Nigerian IT industry.

The agency in a statement signed by Mrs. Hadiza Umar said “it is obvious that Information Technology (IT) development and deployment in Nigeria in the last one decade has made significant impact in virtually every aspect of life. It is also playing key roles in federal government’s national development agenda.”

NITDA is hosting a stakeholders’ consultative forum on the 2011 edition of e-Nigeria, i’s flagship Information Technology event entirely devoted to awareness creation. This theme of year’s event is “Local Content in IT development in Nigeria.”

According to her “despite this, our knowledge-base and technology environment especially in the area of IT (Hardware and Software) is greatly dominated and influenced by foreign technologies, and NITDA is therefore considering the examination of the impact of local content development in Nigerian IT industry during the 2011 edition of e - Nigeria summit.”
